The demands imposed upon the writer by novels and screenplays are very different—so different, in fact, that few novelists write screenplays, and vice versa. Wonderful novels can make terrible movies, if not artfully adapted, and screenplays often lack the complexity and detail expected of novels. Nevertheless, successful adaptation is possible (witness the Harry Potter novels). If you’re seeking to maximize the commercial potential of your novel (or appropriate nonfiction book), we can adapt it into a screenplay for you. We can also adapt your screenplay into a novel (or, in some cases, a nonfiction book). Our process generally begins with a review of the source material via one of the following services: Book-to-Screen Evaluation & Consultation An uncompromising evaluation of your book's film potential. TED's Director of Development or lead Story Editor will read your manuscript, prepare a brief written report, and follow up with a one-hour phone consultation to discuss the cinematic merits of your story, characters, dialogue, structure, pacing and subject matter and how any (or all) of these elements might be modified when adapting your book for the screen. Should you want help writing a screenplay or want us to write it for you we can do that, too. Your phone consultation will be recorded, with a copy sent to you via email. Price: $2.00 per manuscript page, with a page counting as 250 words. Turnaround Time: 3-4 weeks (Rush service available) Screen-to-Book Evaluation & Consultation An uncompromising evaluation of your screenplay's book potential. TED's Director of Development will read your manuscript, prepare a brief written report, and follow up with a one-hour phone consultation to discuss the book-side merits of your story, characters, dialogue, structure, pacing and subject matter, and how any (or all) of these elements might be modified when adapting your script into book form. Should you want help writing a book or want us to write it for you we can do that, too. Your phone consultation will be recorded, with a copy sent to you via email.
