Bio

Morgana Gallaway is an author published both traditionally and independently. She brings an experienced voice to The Editorial Department, helping clients make decisions about the path to publishing that will suit them best. As a consultant, she offers initial guidance on the benefits and drawbacks of self-publishing in a rapidly evolving market, helps plan out a publishing strategy based on the project and the author's needs, and guides authors through title set-up, pricing decisions, distribution, and liaises with TED's design team.

Coming from the trenches with expertise in multiple avenues of publishing, she helps fellow writers navigate the mystifying waters of the current market—and wants every good story to find its expression.

In her words:

My start in the publishing industry was conventional: an agent, a book deal, an editor. When I sold my first novel four years ago, I didn't anticipate how fast the industry would change, or that I might turn away from the traditional model and become one of an increasing number of "indie" publishers.

I made the decision to self-publish my second novel, and I have reclaimed control of the creation, production, and distribution of my work using the web and various e-book platforms. As a writer, I have never felt more fulfilled and optimistic about my future.

I'm not the only author making this leap, and as someone who has "been there" I can offer enthusiastic but realistic advocacy for independent publishing. Every book and every author is unique—self-publishing is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. My goal and passion is to use my direct experience to help my fellow writers on their way to having that perfect finished book.
