OverviewHands on editing to bring out the best in narrative voice and final correction prior to publication or agent submission.

We offer three levels of “hands-on” editing, in which specific changes are made within the manuscript. All of them typically take place at the end of the editorial process, since it doesn't make sense to change content that may itself change again.

Proofreading

dollar_sign_2Please note that this service is available at a 10% discount for the month of September for registered members of our website.

Our most basic hands-on service, providing correction only--incorrect grammar, misspelling, and typographical errors. It's a vital last step for preparing for publication and advisable before submission to agents and publishers. It won't elevate poor writing, but it will make it correct.

Copyediting

dollar_sign_2Please note that this service is available at a 10% discount for the month of September for registered members of our website.

Includes proofreading as above while attending as well to consistency of style, clarity, unintentional repetition, obvious factual errors, and so on.

Line Editing

May be heavy, light as a feather, or somewhere in between, but it's always done with the intention of bringing out the best in the author's voice. It can make good writing really shine. Line editing represents the highest level of the editor's craft, since any addition is made in the voice of the author, not the editor. Line editing tends to make a good writer better thanks to the editor's coaching. The agents we connect our authors with expect the manuscripts we send them to be line-edited. It's a matter of professionalism.

What To Expect

All line-by-line editing services are done electronically using Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature which allows authors to accept, modify, or reject all our editors’ changes. We provide both clean as-edited copy and also a compared version that shows exactly what was changed.

Our proofreading and copyediting services are provided with the intention of meeting or exceeding a reasonable standard of correctness, consistency, and attention to style as is customary in the publishing industry.

Please note that due to the scope of the changes and the author’s participation in implementing the changes, a light proofread may be advisable after the line-editing stage.
