TED offers three levels of line and copy editing services with options ranging from basic correction of spelling and grammar all the way though a comprehensive polishing edit and coaching notes to help bring out the best in your narrative voice and elevate the appeal of your prose style. The scope, depth, and per-page price for these services vary based on the needs of the manuscript, and you can get a free, no-obligation price quote by sending us a short sample of your manuscript via our online quote request form. All editing is done electronically using a "track changes" feature, which allows authors to accept, modify, or reject all suggested edits. We provide a clean as-edited copy along with the compared version, which shows what's been cut, inserted, or modified. ProofreadingOur most basic service provides correction of grammar, spelling, usage and typographical errors. Proofreading also fixes what computer spelling and grammar checkers often miss. It's a vital last step in preparing a manuscript for publication and highly recommended before you begin submitting your work to agents and publishers. Price: Standard rate of $.008 per word for longer works, subject to adjustment as appropriate based on scope and depth of editing required. get a quote CopyeditingCopyediting includes proofreading (see previous tab) and adds editing for clarity, format, syntax, obvious factual errors, and continuity. If required, we can also review your work for adherence to specific style guides (such as Chicago Manual of Style, AP, APA, and MLA). These are common requirements in academic and technical writing and some categories of nonfiction. Price: Standard rate of $.016 per word, subject to adjustment as appropriate based on scope and depth of editing required. get a quote Line EditingWhile proofreading and copyediting are focused on making things correct and consistent, line editing is all about bringing out the best in the author's voice and making the writing shine. It's the final step towards making your manuscript read as well as possible. Line-editing can include edits to sharpen description, control proportion, eliminate strained literary effect, give dialogue more snap and bite, and bring the highest level of polish to an author's narrative voice and style. Line editing represents the highest level of the editor's craft, since any suggested additions are made in the author's voice, not the editor's. But we also consider what can be trimmed, condensed, or flat-out cut to improve pace, avoid repetition, and make the experience of a book as engaging as possible. While the primary objective is hands-on polishing with these goals in mind, line editing can also include notes in margins to explain changes, break down points of craft, or pass along ideas to push a scene further or make an approach to something work better. So it serves as a teaching tool as well as a final step in readying a manuscript for the marketplace. Price: Varies considerably based on the scope and depth of the editing and coaching notes required, but typical line editing fees fall between $.02 and $.06 per word. get a quote Getting StartedSubmissions and quote requests can be arranged by filling out out online form below or by contacting Jane Ryder at the Tucson Office at (520) 546-9992.
