Bio

jane_ryderJane Ryder, TED's Office Manager, has a varied background in writing and books. Her undergraduate degree is in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona, but her MS is in Library Science, with a focus on Children’s Services, from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She has worked as a librarian, writer, editor, and writing and literature instructor, both in traditional and online settings. Her short stories and articles have appeared in diverse local and national publications. Whatever her job title and description, Jane has always enjoyed being part of the writing community and helping other writers to achieve their goals.

She is a native Tucsonan who has traveled extensively and has lived in London, Spain, Australia, and many states in the U.S. ranging from Tennessee to Oregon, although for reasons which are never clear to her in the summer, she always comes back to Arizona.

Favorite authors include Jonathan Gash, Kazuo Ishiguro, Terry Pratchett, Martin Cruz Smith, and Jim Thompson. She is obsessed with Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey/Maturin series, Russell T. Davies’ Doctor Who, and pretty much anything Joss Whedon does. She prefers literature and entertainment set outside the confines of her own world, possibly because she’s not a big fan of reality. She lives in Tucson, where she looks after her aging mum and occasionally paints ridiculously detailed watercolors.

TED Client Testimonials

"When you think you've written a most clever thing, what do you do when you're told you can make it even better? I didn't want to cut, rewrite, and revise. I didn't want to imagine up another snappy chapter ending. But I cut, and imagined, and rewrote, and cut, and revised. I even have a new document titled "Cut Chapters that Kill Me" (just because I couldn't trash them). But here's the thing: While Peter Gelfan guided me down the path to write more like a professional and introduced me to the world of solid plots, Renni Browne and Shannon Roberts' annotated editing turned me into an honest recorder of my characters' voices and behaviors. That's way better than just being a clever writer. I think that any writer who doesn't use an intelligent editor(s) won't ever know how good their work might be."
