Congratulations go to Fantasy author Dora Machado who on May 28th 2009 won the Bill Fisher award for best first book in the fiction category at the IBPA's Benjamin Franklin AwardsTM.The novel is called
Stonewiser: The Heart of the Stone, the first book in a series of three, and it tells the story of a young stonewiser-someone trained to read the truth in stones-who can only save her world by betraying everyone she has ever known and everything she has ever believed in. Peter Gelfan was lead editor on the project for TED and was immediately drawn to Dora's frighteningly vivid imagination and her willingness to subject her protagonist to the most horrendous challenges. Dora's second novel in the series,
Stonewiser: The Call of the Stone, due for release this June, manages to top the first book.
Stonewiser: The Heart of the Stone is also a finalist in ForeWord's Book of the Year Award, in the Science Fiction and Fantasy category.
We wish Dora luck on all fronts with this promising new series!
