Well, the reason we hadn't heard back yet wasn't because the manuscript had been lost in a slushpile - to the contrary, I found out that the manuscript had been read once and been given the green light to be read a second time (probably by the agent herself - the first read is often done by an assistant) and will be discussed by the agency before a decision is made. This is great news!
There are a lot of hurdles to be jumped over before a book ever sees actual publication, and they're all important. We're all very excited by this news, and we have our fingers crossed that the agent both falls in love with the manuscript and feels confident that she'll be able to place it with a publisher. The novel is by a debut novelist, and is part women's fiction, part suspense/thriller. We hope it finds the audience it deserves!
