Agents and publishing editors are busy people, and in a publishing climate where people have to be exceptionally discriminating about what they take on to represent or to publish, “good” is often not good enough. A superb query letter might get you in the door, but it’s the first few pages of the manuscript itself that typically determine whether someone will want to keep reading your submission -- and the adage “You never get a second chance to make a first impression” is especially true when it comes to submissions. Before you start querying, why not make sure your opening pages are ready to make the best impression possible?
What To ExpectTED’s introductory $35 critique provides a fast, affordable means for writers to get vital feedback on the pages that matter most from experienced fiction and nonfiction editors who know what agents and publishers are looking for. We’ll provide a detailed written critique of the ten-page (2,500 words) sample, a candid assessment of whether or not your work is ready for the marketplace, and then specific suggestions to make your opening more captivating and to strengthen any weak or problematic areas that might turn a reviewer off. Other ConsiderationsPlease note that this service is available for full-length fiction or nonfiction manuscripts at any stage of development, finished or unfinished. The formatting requirements are double line-spacing, 12-point type, 1.25-inch margins, and a file format of .doc, .docx, or .rtf (.pdf and .wps files may be workable but are not preferred). Files in excess of 2,500 words may be pro-rated for additional word count. For short stories and other complete short works, please contact the Tucson Office for a quote. Getting StartedSubmissions can be arranged by filling out out online submissions form below or by contacting Jane Ryder at the Tucson Office at (520) 546-9992.

TED Client Testimonials
"Something in my heart told me to have my work checked (proofread) a second time--and I'm so thankful I did. Kate Steele was spot-on, correcting my work that I received back in top notch shape--giving me a peace of mind. Just as important she was kind and treated me with respect and delivered my work in a timely manner." Katherine Lyles |
